Design Services

Johnson, Spellman offers design and advisory service for fire suppression systems that span a broad spectrum of design challenges. We have unique technical expertise in the following system types:

  • Wet pipe

  • Dry pipe

  • Deluge

  • Pre-action

  • Gas suppression

  • Foam water spray

Unique Challenges

  • MIC (Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion), now a regular phenomenon in sprinkler systems, is localized electrochemical corrosion caused by bacterial activity and has been determined to be the cause of abnormally rapid development of pinhole sized leaks and highly obstructive interior growths in sprinkler systems. MIC thrives in the pre-action environment because of the combination of trapped moisture and a constant supply of compressed air. JSA has developed a number of options to inhibit the growth of MIC in new and existing systems.

  •  HIGHWAY TUNNELS – developed a foam water spray system utilizing FireAde 2000 (a new non-toxic, non-hazardous, non-corrosive, biodegradable wetting agent) in lieu of AFFF. The system is the first of its kind in the world.
