Library, Boyd, and Pafford Buildings Mechanical Renovations

Scope

Removed three existing 30+ year-old chillers and associated pumps and replaced with two chillers with variable flow rate capability. Provided new pumps with system configured for future variable chilled water flow operation. Extensive change out of pneumatic controls and conversion to Direct Digital Controls as extensions of existing campus DDC system.

Special Circumstances

  • Development of specific timeline and dates for start and end of work, allowable shutdown dates and timelines, and work restrictions in areas in-use per meetings with representatives of campus facilities management, Library system, and other academic departments. 

  • Definition of building demolition and rebuild necessary to accommodate rework of land-locked Chilled Water System.     

  • Design of customized air handling unit as replacement for 35 year old air handling unit located in wrap-around, metal Penthouse with limited physical height and floor area provided in the Penthouse
