East Village Commons Dining Hall

Scope

Complete mechanical systems design and construction phase services for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems to serve a new 58,000 sq. ft. dining/social facility, which includes a 580-seat dining hall, cyber café, convenience store, 8,000 sq. ft. kitchen, and parking services office area.

Special Circumstances

  • The underground campus chilled water loop was extended to supplement the building’s chiller.  Associated valves and piping were arranged to allow any of the following: (1) chiller supplies chilled water to the building; (2) campus loop supplies chilled water to the building; (3) chiller supplies building and supplements the campus loop.

  • Fourteen kitchen exhaust hoods were utilized in the project. Variable volume air handling systems were designed to provide make-up air to all kitchen hoods maintaining negative pressure within the kitchen, positive pressures in the seating area with the ability to turn kitchen hood exhaust fans on or off independently.

  • Three 2,000-gallon grease traps piped in series were designed for the sanitary waste exiting the kitchen.
