Design and Continuous Facility Upgrade

Scope

Designed a new 100,000 square foot facility with 50,000 square feet of raised floor area. Work has included numerous modifications to the mechanical systems for this critical data center facility over a period of 17 years.

Special Circumstances

  • Expansion of the chilled water plant from 1,200 tons to 2,400 tons.

  • A building expansion that included the addition of a new, independent, secondary chilled water-piping system incorporated into the existing primary/secondary piping system.

  • Design and installation of five new diesel generator plants for complete on site power operation.

  • Design of the fuel-oil storage and delivery systems for the diesel-generator plant, which included two 10,000-gallon underground fuel-oil tanks with redundant daytank and piping system features.

  • Renovation of the existing automatic fire protection sprinkler system, which included the addition of two new fire pumps and rezoning of the system for multiple hazard classifications.

  • Design and installation of complete direct digital control and monitoring system for the entire central plant.

  • Addition of redundant secondary chilled water pumps and associated piping for cooling of the mainframe computers.

  • Installation of backup water supply for fire service and cooling towers to include wells, lake water supply and 125,000-gallon on-site storage tank.
