New Building

Scope

Mechanical systems design and construction phase services for a new 62,000 square foot multi-story building that consists of a main educational wing and a 10,250 square foot gymnasium.  New HVAC equipment included ground-source heat pumps with closed loop tempered water system.  Pre-conditioned outside air was ducted to each classroom and major area from water-cooled dedicated outside air units. Project facility has achieved a Silver rating under the LEED green building program.

Special Circumstances

  • Geothermal heat exchanger buried under soccer field for heating and cooling the building.  Loop consists of 20,000 feet of 1-1/4" piping within fifty 400-foot deep wells.

  • Utilized fabric ductwork in the gymnasium and weight room.

  • Building energy saving measures such as the geothermal loop resulted in a calculated 38.6% savings over minimum requirements of ASHRAE 90.1 energy code.
