and Renovation
Scope
Mechanical design and construction phase services
for the renovation of the existing 80-year-old Grady High School Campus.
Approximately 120,000 sq. ft. of the five-building campus was renovated
while more than 100,000 sq. ft. of new building was added.
The buildings included classrooms, a 25,000 sq. ft. gym with locker
rooms, a 500-seat theater, a 700-seat cafeteria with associated kitchen, a
music building (band, choral and orchestra rooms) with recording capability,
and a TV studio. |

Special Circumstances
-
All
classrooms are served by energy efficient water-source heat pumps.

All
buildings are equipped with energy recovery ventilators to lower utility
costs and HVAC loads.

High efficiency (90%+) boilers are utilized for building heating.

Acoustically designed Band, Choral, Orchestra Rooms, and Television
Broadcast Studio.

New
campus distribution piping systems for natural gas, domestic water, and
fire protection water.

Acid resistant piping system and central acid dilution tank serving the
eight science classrooms.

All
buildings protected by new fire sprinkler systems.
- Design included phasing
requirements necessary to allow school to remain in operation during
construction.
