Library North HVAC

Scope

Replace the air-handling units and associated electric duct heaters for the entire building in four phases. Due to limited access, the building exterior wall was opened on two opposite sides from top to bottom to provide a path for new air units. The design also included new humidification systems, new building direct digital control system, and new roof-mounted energy recovery units with new outside air distribution system also included.

Special Circumstances

  • Library remained occupied and in use during equipment replacement.

  • No ready access path to mechanical rooms.

  • Equipment removal and installation required extensive pre-planning and coordination with:  (1) City of Atlanta street closure ordinances; (2) limitations on capabilities of use of crane, building elevators, and access to the mechanical rooms; (3) helicopter lifts; (4) phasing of the work as required by the Owner’s representatives.
