Kell Hall Brain Science Laboratory Renovation

Scope

Provide mechanical systems design and construction phase services for renovation of the existing laboratory. Complex renovation required changing duct and pipe systems around existing occupancies that were intended to remain.

Special Circumstances

  • Complete removal of existing HVAC system.  Two new constant volume, multi-zone air handling systems provided.

  • Full renovation of the associated chilled water and steam heating piping distribution systems including coordination with impact on new chilled water and steam piping systems serving the associated, seven-story building.

  • Clearances from floor-to-structure above typically only 9’6” to 9’9”.

  • Fish Holding Room included a requirement for a wide range of room temperature control capability from mid-50° to mid-70°.  Special filtration of water and make-up air required.
