Classroom Building Cooling Tower and Piping Addition

Scope

Upgrade the existing condenser water system serving the West Campus chilled water loop.  Replace the existing cooling tower with redundant 750-ton towers, designing for an additional two towers in the future.

Special Circumstances

  • Work completed during occupancy of animal care laboratory.

  • Route 16” risers through an existing 10-story building from the roof to the basement.

  • Work required around continuing building occupancy during construction.

  • Cross-connect the existing 10” rises with the new 16” risers.

  • Structural supports for the anticipated four cooling towers.

  • Upgrade of the existing electrical systems to support the new towers and other roof-mounted equipment.

  • Phasing of the mechanical work to limit the downtime of the chilled water plant.
