Fuel Storage and Transfer System Replacement

Scope

Replacement of the fuel storage and transfer system was performed in conjunction with replacement of three standby generators. The new fuel system included a new 30,000-gallon underground tank, four submersible fuel pumps, two fuel transfer and circulating header systems, and two control systems.

Special Circumstances

  • Removal of 30,000-gallon interior fuel tank, piping, and multiple daytanks.

  • Installation of new 30,000-gallon underground fuel storage tank in very space-restricted area.

  • Design of a 10,000-gallon fiberglass water storage tank serving as emergency make-up water storage for the HVAC system. 

  • Design of dual circulating header fuel supply systems serving two different generator rooms, each with multiple generators.

  • Very restrictive local codes limited fuel storage and transfer options.
